Instructional Coaching

If you are seeking to reinvigorate your teaching practice, focus on particular teaching skills, navigate though change, improve student achievement, or simply looking for a thought partner as you think about your WHY? and HOW?, I would be honored to work alongside you. I have years of experience mentoring and coaching visual arts teachers as they grapple with both big and small questions around what they do, as well as why and how they go about doing it.

Curriculum (Re)Design & Lesson Planning

Are you looking to revamp or update your visual arts curriculum, or to introduce some new lessons? There are numerous ways to structure an effective visual arts program, and I will work with you to craft a curriculum that is best for your student population, your faculty, your budget, and your school. I will help you develop goals, state your desired outcomes, design engaging lessons, implement the program, and follow-up with program evaluation assistance.

Resume Review & Faculty Hiring

Hiring the right faculty is key to successfully implementing your curriculum, delivering your department's mission, and getting the best out of your students. But it can be a time-consuming process.

If you are looking to fill a position in your department, I can save you time by sorting through your applicants, reviewing their resumes, identifying key strengths, and make recommendations on which candidates to pursue. I will work with you to identify your program's and department's needs, helping you to match those needs with the appropriate candidates.

Classroom Organization

A well-organized classroom benefits both teachers and students, and often results in the production of stronger student artwork. But organizing art classrooms can be tricky, especially when students come and go all day, and use a variety of media. Storage of supplies and student projects can seem like a problem that never gets solved. I can help you select appropriate and budget-friendly furniture and storage units to make the most efficient use of your limited classroom spaces.

Student Assessment

Assessing students is, perhaps, one of the most challenging aspects of being an art educator. How can we measure and assess creativity or artistry? How much does student effort versus skill development count in our evaluation? How do we, as educators, reduce our own biases from the assessment process? I have experience working with many different types of assessment models, and I can help you formulate and implement one that works best for your school and for your students.

Technology in the Studio Classroom

So much of art education involves the tactile experience of manipulating materials like paint, clay, wood, charcoal, stone, etc. But more and more, teachers and schools are introducing digital media into their visual arts curricula. Courses in digital photography, graphic design, and videography are now commonplace, and newer makerspace technologies such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and sewing machines are becoming more prevalent. Instead of sketchbooks, many students are now given digital tablets and styluses. What's the right balance between traditional versus new media for the age group you teach? What are the pedagogical gains and losses when making such a transition? I can help you navigate this space in a way that makes sense for your students and your school.

AP & College Portfolio Preparation

Choosing the right artworks, especially given restrictions on the number of images allowed, can be an overwhelming experience. Let me help you create the strongest portfolio possible. Over the years, I have successfully assisted many students prepare portfolios for the AP Studio Art courses and for admissions to colleges and universities.

International & Domestic Art Travel

Touring local museums and galleries or traveling abroad to experience the arts of other people and cultures can be an invaluable experience for both students and teachers. Are you looking to get your students out of the studio classroom? Would you love to find an amazing professional development opportunity? I can help you plan appropriate and budget-friendly trips that will enhance your career and your visual arts program.
